The New Music Economy: Why Ai and Apps Are a Win-Win for Everyone

Established artists are worried about their bottom line with the launch of music-making apps, but there's really nothing to worry about. Most of these new creators, while skilled at using technology, cannot perform their music in public. This is where established artists have the edge.

If anything, established artists can now collaborate with these creators to either buy their song or offer to share profits if it's performed in public. As far as I see it, this is a win for everybody.

A plethora of new songs on the market is good for the consumer, as music won't be so expensive anymore. It opens up a new pipeline of creativity that wasn't possible before. Established artists no longer have to rely solely on their own creativity to come up with a hit; they can simply scour the web, find a great song already made, and perform it. This streamlines the creative process and allows them to focus on what they do best: live performance and production.

Meanwhile, the small creator who made a song on their laptop is now able to get a piece of the pie. If they have a good song already published, it can be discovered and turned into a hit by an artist with a global platform. This new model democratizes the industry and allows talent to be rewarded regardless of who performs the music.

This is the future. Artists and musicians alike would do well not to fight it, but to embrace it, or risk going extinct. The music industry is shifting from a centralized, top-down model to a decentralized, collaborative ecosystem. Established artists can become curators and performers of an endless stream of new music, while emerging creators gain a direct path to a global audience. The old gatekeepers are gone, and in their place is a new world of opportunity, ready for those who are willing to adapt.
