Jamaican Ole time sayings

Jot down some sayings that you heard growing up here. If you know it, also give the explanation.

Let me start.

I heard this one and I want to know if anybody found it to be true.

"If you want to scare off bad dawg, just shine a bright flashlight in their eyes"

Now tell me how in the world will bad dawg run from light?  Are they afraid of their shadow or something?

"When Ashes cold Dawg will Lie down"
If there is no threat people will take advantage.

"Time is longer than rope"
This means that bad times can't last forever.

    IDLE DAWG WORRY SHEEP!

My parents used to say this to me every time, whenever they saw me being mischievous. The thought behind it was that the shepherd dog who is suppose to keep watch is not suppose to be slacking, cause if he does then the wolves can come and take away the sheep. So this is reason for the sheep to worry.

I guess I was the dawg and my parents were the sheep.
